What is the difference between a DOJO cane and other canes and what is meant by training grade wood?Updated 2 months ago

A dojo cane is a cane that is made for working out in the dojo with other people. The horn is made an inside cut which is the least offensive and makes it good for working with another person without harming them in the practicing processes. It also does not have other carvings on it which makes it sturdy for using against another cane stick or bag. You would not want to take your premium cane with all the carvings and use in the dojo/training environment, as it could break when used against a heavy back or the integrity of the wood could be affected by the constant beating that the dojo cane that is not carved can handle with ease. This is why we do recommend the purchase of a DOJO training cane with all of our other canes. We also generally do not put a stain and finish on the dojo cane as you do not want the wood to be slick in the training environment as then your can could slide from your hands unexpectedly and clonk someone else in the dojo that you may not be working with. A dojo cane also generally has a wider crook and a shorter horn than our premium canes and this is to facilitate the movements and learning of quick locks and releases with a partner. Training grade wood is used which may not be 100 percent straight and may have small visible flaws but since we are not carving the cane should not make any difference in the training environment.
